From mass spectrometry to MALDI imaging
Imaging mass spectrometry
Imaging mass spectrometry used in the JCSM allows the examination of tissue sections and thus the exact localization of thousands of proteins in an experiment. The advantage over previous proteomic studies is that the proteins need neither be labeled nor known beforehand. Using this method, the heterogeneity of tumors can be detected due to the different distribution of proteins but also of lipids. It is to be expected that with the help of this novel method also new tumor markers can be found.
